Frequently asked questions.
How does drone deer recovery work?
The operator launches a drone equipped with a high-resolution thermal camera and scans the search area for heat signatures. Once a likely target is found, the operator confirms if it’s the deer in question and guides the hunter or landowner to the location.
How accurate are thermal drones for finding deer?
Modern thermal drones (like the DJI Mavic 3T or Matrice 30T) can detect a deer-sized heat signature from hundreds of feet away, even in thick cover. However, accuracy depends on conditions such as temperature, time since the deer expired, and terrain.
How long after the shot should I call for a drone search?
The sooner the better. Heat signatures fade quickly — usually within 6–12 hours depending on weather. Calling within 2–4 hours after the shot gives the best chance of locating the deer.
What if it’s too dark or raining?
Thermal drones can operate effectively in low light or darkness, but heavy rain, snow, or fog can limit visibility and flight safety. If conditions aren’t safe, the operator may postpone the flight until they clear.
